Blogger Street Team member Sandra, who also goes by the moniker Gluten-Free Doll, was diagnosed with celiac disease over ten years ago. She shares her gluten-free adventure on her blog, Gluten-Free Doll, and is divulging today her top tips for the most magical table service experience!

When most people think of special dietary meals at the Walt Disney World parks and resorts, Table Service and Quick Service are the first things that come to mind. They are fantastic options! There are also many overlooked gems, which can provide safe food options as well. Disney offers several unique experiences that can accommodate special dietary requirements. As always, a quick email or phone call to Disney’s special diets team will ensure your needs can be met.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a special ticketed event which is held on select nights in November and December. Magic Kingdom is transformed into a Christmas paradise for this event. Not to be missed attractions include: Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, Character Dance Parties and snow falling on Main Street.

In the past, Disney has provided safe options for those requiring a special diet. Complimentary treat options have included cookies that are free of nuts, as well as options which are free of gluten, dairy and sugar. Healthy alternatives such as prepackaged apple slices and juice are regularly provided at this event. Contact Disney’s special diet department by emailing them at or by calling 407-824-5967.

[Note from FACCWDW: The Christmas Party is being held on dates that include the evening of November 22nd!]

Mickey’ Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is another special ticketed event. It runs from 7:00pm – midnight, on select nights from September to October 31st. As the event title states, this party is not scary and great for families! It offers something for everyone – parades, fireworks, dancing, trick-or-treating, and character interaction. Let’s not forget that adults and children are invited to dress in costume for the night as well.

This is a special ticketed event and is well worth the money in my opinion. When I attended, I went to City Hall in Magic Kingdom about an hour before the event officially kicked off. There, I was able to get a special treat bag, full of pumpkin shaped gluten free chocolates. A lot of the treats handed out by cast members are gluten free as well. Just be sure to check all labels, and when in doubt go without.

Special Occasion Cakes

With advance notice, most Disney restaurants can provide a custom cake! All you have to do is call (407)827-2253 to reach the Disney cake hotline. Make sure to advise them of any dietary restrictions and they will work with you to provide a spectacular celebration cake. You can arrange to have the cake brought out at the end of a Walt Disney World Table Service meal, or you can have it delivered to your WDW resort hotel room. Prices are not cheap and do vary, depending on the customization you choose. Regardless of price, your cake is sure to be breathtaking and delicious!

Splitsville is a bowling alley, which is located in Downtown Disney. During the day, the bowling alley caters to families and children. Once 8:00pm hits, its adults only (21+). The alley has a full service restaurant that offers 16 mouth-watering options gluten free options on the menu. Check out a few of those items below.

Pirates & Pals

This Pirate themed boat cruise will not disappoint. It runs from the Contemporary Resort and costs about $59.00 for adults and $34.00 for kids. Captain Hook, and Smee greet guests. Your Pirate Hosts – Patch and his twin brother Patch will ensure a laughing good time.

The boat sails on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. You will be treated to fireworks and the Electric Water Pageant, along with Pirate tales and Disney trivia. There is also a special surprise at the end of the cruise.

When making a reservation for the Pirates & Pals Firework Cruise, have the cast member make note of any special dietary requirements. Doing this will make sure that prepackaged snacks are available to meet your dietary needs.

Water Parks

Disney’s Water Parks are another great option for fun. Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach have several Counter Service locations which can accommodate special dietary requirements. Sorry, no Table Service here. You will find typical fast food staples such as burgers, chicken tenders and hot dogs. Another option is to reserve a cabana (for a fee). The cabanas provide more than just a shady place to relax. They are set up for six guests and come with a locked locker, cooler, all day drink mugs (1 per guest), bottled water and an attendant. You can reserve in advance by calling 407-939-7529.
